How can you use Social Media in your class?
This question is asked by a lot of teachers around the world.
Well it's quite easy to use. There are a lot of different types of Social Media.
Like Twitter, Facebook, Classbook, Youtube, etc.
The most of teachers think: Oh, I use Youtube in my class to show some videos, so I'm using Social Media in my class. But you're wrong. If you just let children watch videos from Youtube, you're not using Social Media, you're just showing Social Media.
Ways to use Social Media in your class
All types of social media got their own different type of education.
If you want to use Twitter in your class, but you don't know how to use it. Maybe try to use TPACK and start creating your own lessons with Social Media.
You want the children to write good texts? Make an online magazine with the children. They will start writing and making their own stories about the things you or they want. When your class magazine is finished, you can put it online or print it and give copies to the children.
An advantage of the Social Media is that you can keep the parents updated about the things that the children are doing on school. By making a Facebook account or Classbook (with Classbook you got more control what's getting posted and what isn't getting posted) you can share what you're doing in your classroom. Have you started a new project? Make a picture and put it in our Facebook/Classbook and let the children post a message with it.
Then the parents know what you're doing. When you're chatting with them and they refer to a picture, you know they're involved in the process of their children.
So using Social Media in your class isn't just for fun. The children are learning how to deal with Social Media, they learn to write a text and you get involved parents.
