We've talked about the Technology Adoption Life Cycle of Rogers. In his theory there are 5 different groups of innovators. I'll explain these groups with an example. This example won't be about education, but just a random subject. I'll explain this with the iPhone.
The Innovators : The people who buys the new iPhone as first. Every year when there's a new iPhone they buy the new ones without reading any reviews of this phone.
Early Adopters : This group are the people who wait a short time and wait for the review of the Innovators. Then they will buy before the biggest group of persons buy the new iPhone.
Early Majority : This group wait for the review of the Innovators and Early Adopters. This group is the biggest group. They will follow the new trend of the iPhone.
Late Majority : This group will get the iPhone when it's cheaper and when everybody has it all ready. They made the choice to wait until the trend is already over and then buy the iPhone.
Laggerds : The laggards are the people who doesn't buy the iPhone, because they want to stay in the past. They are not the persons who want to innovate, but to they chose to be conservative.
With the class we made some statements about innovation:
- Innovation succeeds when everybody wants to do / have it. Like it's a disease.
- Innovation succeeds when everybody talks about it.
- Innovation succeeds when it doesn't take too much time.
- Innovation succeeds when it has more value.
- Innovation succeeds when it solves problems.
- Innovation succeeds when it has positive effects on different processes.
There are a few things which a innovation in education should have:
- It should be easy to use.
- It should increase the involvement of the children.
- It should have interaction.

When I'm thinking where I'm placed in the general innovation graphic. I think I'll be in the Early Adopters . I know that I'm not an innovator, but in some things I'm an innovator. I think I'm an innovator in my school when I'm thinking about the use of ICT. But when I think about mobile phones I belong in the Early Adopter.
