Everybody knows Skype, but using Skype in your class?
Skype is a free communication tool you can use to talk to people who are not present in you class. A lot of people use Skype to talk to their friends or family who lives in an other country. Because it's free to make an account and free to video chat it's a great solution for those people.
A teacher told me that he uses Skype in his class to talk to people from Australia and Asia.
In first you wonder why do they want to talk to people in Australia or Asia?
Well the answer is quite easy. They want to know something about their culture or just to explore the way how they live. It's just very handy when you want to see things about their house or surroundings. because you can video-chat with the person you are calling with and he can show everything with his webcam.
Most of the laptops that are made these days got an internal webcam.
We've Skyped with the class of Rob Vervoort. He did send us some pictures of cities and villages and we had to show them to his students (Basisschool Eerschot group 3). We were talking with them about the difference between the cities and villages. It was for us a great experience to see how Rob Vervoort used Skype for his class.
Advantages of Skype:
- It's easy to use. You just need a laptop / computer / tablet with a camera and you can start your own video-chat with other people around the world.
- You can let people speak to your class without being in the class.
Disadvantage of Skype:
- You need to have a laptop / computer / tablet with a camera.
- You need to be online (but nowadays everyone got internet)
