We've changed a lot since the past. In the past there was no technology, there were no computers, there were no tablets, there were no smartphones. Being a teacher was a different job then nowadays. In the 21st Century you have to deal with technology, computers, tablets, smartphones and so on. This requires a lot from the teacher in the present and in the future.
In the minor we had a lesson from A. van Walraven. She told the present skills are actually outdated again, because education is always changing. I understand what she means, because you can't be the same teacher as the teachers from the past. You need to innovate and be open-minded for new skills that are going to be create in the future.
I will explain the segments of the 21st Century Skills model made by Kennisnet.
Cooperation:
The purpose of cooperation is to reach a goal together, inspire others, support and to complement each other. To complete these purposes you need to recognize different roles and talents in your group. It's important that you're able to ask questions and answer questions, because you're all responsible for the result. Therefore you have to be flexible and you have to adjust you're behavior to others.
A tool you can use for cooperation: Skype
Problem solving abilities:
The purpose of problem solving abilities is to recognize a problem and making a plan to solve it. You will need to recognize a problem, analyze the problem and define the problem. When you know what the problem is you have to think up a strategy to solve the problem. You need creativity, thinking out side the box, motivation, tenacity, cooperation, evaluation and reflect the strategy. When you combine those aspects you will find your strategy to solve problems.
Knowledge of technology:
The purpose of knowledge of technology is using the technology effective and efficient. To use technology effective and efficient you need to know how to analyse and select the sources from the media and ICT. You'll have to understand how the media works these days. There are different ways of communication in the present and you have to know what you can use.
The people from Kennisnet think this is the only 'new' skill of the 21st century, because we've got a lot of new technology we didn't had or knew how to work with it in the past.
Creativity:
The purpose of creativity is the ability to come up with new idea's, approximation, new solving abilities and thinking outside the box to create and optimize your intellect. To reach this purpose you have to learn a strategy to come up with new idea's. There you need some fantasy and you'll have to let the standard idea's loose. If you stick to the things there already are, you won't come up with new creative idea's. You need to be curiosity, not being scared of being different, ingenuity and being open-minded. Maybe the most important thing you need to have to be creative is that you don't have to be scared to make a mistake.
Critical thinking:
The purpose of critical thinking is the ability to come up with your own independent opinion and vision about an idea. You will be able to analyse, compare, interpret, conclude and evaluate your own proces. You will have to look critical to yourself and be able to give feedback to yourself on your idea.
Communication:
The purpose of communication is being able to receive and give a message to somebody else. You can communicate on different ways; You can exchange information, listen, recognize the core of a message, give your opinion on an effective manner, being clear, showing who you are and being visible (this means that you have to be open to communicate and that you don't hide from the conversation).
Social and cultural skills:
The purpose of social and cultural skills is being able to talk, work, live and cooperate effective with people with a different ethnic background, social skill, organisation or political opinion. You need to have respect for others, because everybody is different and nobody is the same. For me this is the most important segment of the 21st century skills. When you need to cooperate with someone else, you need to be friendly to him or her. Because you don't use proper social and cultural skills, you won't be able to reach a goal together.
